Professional Development is important to CINEC Education in fostering professional growth within our BC Offshore schools. Each year, all CINEC schools come together in the fall to further their teaching expertise. Recently, everyone gathered inShanghai for our annual Pro D Day event. This year was the 7th event that CINEC has organized. CINEC schools take turns hosting the Pro D Day andShanghai Nanyang Model Private High School was the location for this year’s event.

Every year a central theme is decided for the presentations. The new designed British Columbia Ministry of Education curriculum was the main focus for this year. CINECteachers volunteer from each school to present to each other and showcase strategies and teaching methods they are using in their classrooms and schools. The presentations this year were carefully prepared and provided many outstanding ideas for the teachers to use in their classrooms.

All the presentations centered on the key aspect of the new curriculum called Core Competencies. The BC curriculum core competencies are: Communication, Thinking (Creative Thinking andCritical Thinking), and Personal andSocial (Positive Personal and Cultural Identity, Personal Awareness, andSocial Responsibility).

The respectful collaboration, trust, and feedback amongst all CINEC staff were noted this year. Warm applause was given to the presenters at the end of the day and all staff were left with many ideas and strategies to support them in further developing the new curriculum at their schools. This year’s event was seen as a huge success and we look forward to moving to Jiaxing next year for our 8thannual CINEC Professional Development Day.
